Champion

November 30th, 2009 (10:11 am)

The very fine gentleman who bears my favor on the armored-combat field in the SCA, [info]rameymj, mentioned yesterday that he thinks he's going to be ready to enter the Crown List in the Spring. His arming coat is rather disreputable at this time, so I've decided that I'm going to make him a new one in time to have it properly broken in, but not yet broken down, in time for the Tourney. Methinks I will also do a new rock for him, as his has acquired a few bites. He's possibly coming by for measurements/draping on Thursday after the Shire council meeting.

So that's something else new for the project list! I'm actually rather excited that there are so many new ones, as I'd gotten a bit sanguine about projects lately.

ETA: The list:

Christmas Sewing
Damian's Sweater
Darren's Doublet
Justin's 12th Night
Wilhelm's Arming Coat
Wilhelm's Waffenrock

Have I forgotten something?

New Projj

November 28th, 2009 (11:18 am)

So it looks like Justin is a serious keeper. I draped him for a doublet yesterday. He will be in blue velvet with silver accents for 12th Night. The drape looks so tiny--he's a lean fellow, and I'm used to sewing for hefty men.

I am nigh unto giddy about dressing the Ken doll to accompany the Barbie doll. He has no fear of tights, he's not skittish about things around his neck, he loves color and he'll look grand next to my darling daughter.

Happy yippee skippee.

Thursday in November (well, Friday now)

November 13th, 2009 (01:18 am)

Sewing for the week is done. Eight bazillion pieces. Back aches. Eyes are tired. I feel accomplished, however.

Have sent measurement requirements to Texas for the family jammies. Kids grow, yanno.

Will pull together stuff for the weekend in the morning.

Second Wind

November 5th, 2009 (02:47 am)

Yeah, so I pulled out the fabric for [info]aeddie's tunic, and lo and behold, I'd already cut it. So tonight I spent putting it together. That means I've gained a day. Go me.

But it's about quarter of three now, and I'm wide awake. Like supercharged wide awake. It isn't caffeine, because I haven't had any for days, unless you count the Excedrin I took to kill the headache I got around 7:00--almost 8 hours ago.

Still have to figure out what I'm doing about a belt--Himself can figure out his own belt.

And maybe shoes. I might think about putting together some simple turnshoes.

It's all good.

Quickie for Coronation

November 4th, 2009 (11:13 pm)

11th century Norman/Saxon under/overtunics for me in moss green/gold/cream. Hand sewn hems for sleeves. Hand sewn hems on reverse facings. Still didn't take long.

Undertunic fabric: $2.00 a yard
Overtunic fabric: $3.00 a yard

No, it isn't silk. I am pretty sure it's a poly/rayon blend on each. Haven't tested it yet. But it's not ugly.

Bought all they had on the bolt for each and used all three yards in the overtunic. Still have most of the undertunic fabric; there were 17 yards on the bolt. To get the $2.00 price, we had to get the whole thing. But that's ok because it's going to be usable for all periods up through the One True Century.

Still need to do something about a belt and a veil. Have a usable wimple.

Will have pix taken on Saturday.

[info]aeddie's tunic shouldn't take very long either. Cutting it tonight. Sewing it tomorrow. Fabrics coordinate, don't match. His fabric was more expensive, but worth every bit of the $6.99 a yard.

Gotta love the Dangerous Store.

Court Clothes

October 18th, 2009 (01:28 pm)

I've been doing a quick research into 11th c. clothes.

Good gravy, it's the dreaded T-tunic. The Viking apron dress is 9th/10th century.

However, T-tunics are easy peasy and I can use them later as simplewear.

Layered tunics with ridiculous sleeves over tunics with snug sleeves with veils. I can do this. It isn't the One True Century, but I can make it work. I have the fabric. I have the skills. I can do it in my sleep.

More Dan Stuff

September 30th, 2009 (01:00 am)

Finished one doublet, black and gold fretwork pattern. The other doublet, which is a sage green that matches Katty's gown in color but not the same fabric, is done but for attachment of copper and black trim and buttons, working of button loops, and slipstitching lining to fashion fabric at armscyes and waist. It's all pinned, so maybe Katling will do some of that. If she doesn't, I'm ok with it, but I know she will want to put some of her own self into these garments.

He's a little too modern in his style, so his imagined waist is way down at his hipbones (standard jeans waist) but that he's willing to wear doublets is a point in his favor.

Not bothering with sleeves for the doublets at this point. I might do a single set that can do double duty for the two doublets. Yeah, that sounds like a plan.

Buzzing along

September 29th, 2009 (05:17 pm)

Two more finish-up projects done:

Two pairs of Dan Pants sewn together. DONE!
Katty's pavilion ropes/sliders have their pennons attached. DONE!

I like the feeling of having something actually finished. I have two more pairs of pants to make, this time for [info]aeddie, a cloak for Dan, and two doublets to sew together for Dan.

I do not like, at all, that we are losing Dan to the Pacific Northwest soon. Whatever we can do to save him from this doom is a Good Thing.

Cutting day

September 29th, 2009 (12:01 am)

Dan's doublets and pants (two sets) are cut. I will assemble them tomorrow. It turns out that I'm going to have to alter two of the three shirts I made. Oops. There is time. Say it again, there is time. Pray with me, there is time.

I still need to cut and assemble his cloak and [info]aeddie's pants. Dan doesn't know he's getting a cloak.

Turn, turn, turn

September 18th, 2009 (01:24 pm)

I haven't been out much this week since the vertigo hit. Needed some more pins and thread for a commission, and needed to take a parcel to the UPS store. So [info]aeddie and I trundled into the van and away we went. Started to feel a bit of the vertigo and a bit of cold sweat in the car to the UPS store, which is less than a mile from home. Toughed it out, and continued on to JoAnn's.

Today was supposed to be double discount day for people with Associates status (which I do, thanks to DD) but they only gave me a single discount. I wasn't going to squabble over a buck, and I was really feeling woozy, so we headed home with thread and pins.

Stopped to pick up some lunch at fast food joints and then home. I am glad to be home and seated.

Spun a couple bobbins, and will be hitting the sewing machine in a moment or two.
